The chemistry, briefly
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) at around 70% and ethanol at around 75% are fast-acting and residue-free. They are ideal for routine skin antisepsis before injections and for wiping down surfaces and equipment. Adding chlorhexidine to alcohol adds persistence for pre-procedure prep. Because these are alcohol-based, they sit together in our alcohol category.
Contact time and saturation
Alcohol works while it is wet. The surface should stay visibly wet for the labelled contact time, so saturation matters as much as chemistry: a well-charged wipe for larger areas, a swabstick for a hub or small site, and bulk solution where you fill your own format. A wet-plus-dry pairing lets you clean then dry in one pack.
Skin vs surface — and compliance
Skin antiseptics and surface disinfectants can share alcohol chemistry but have different intended uses and regulatory routes.
